| The Four-Way Test:
In everything that we
think, say or
do:
Is it
the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all
concerned?
Will it build
GOODWILL and BETTER
FRIENDSHIPS?
Will
it be BENEFICIAL to all
concerned?

 President
C.J. Becker called the meeting to
order.
Announcements:
William H.
"Bill" Breen Jr. was recognized as an
"Honorary Member" of Decatur Rotary Club.
President C. J. Becker
introduced a video presentation of a "younger Bill
Breen" discussing the development of the MARTA
rail line through Decatur. At that time, Bill worked
with MARTA planning task forces and fought for
construction considerations that incorporated
environmental responsibility. When asked
on the video which public servant he most admired,
Bill's unhesitating response was "Scott Candler
Sr."
A member of Decatur Rotary Club since 1955,
Bill was Club President from 1979-1980. Long
active in community and public service, Bill has
served on both the Decatur City Commission and on
the City Schools of Decatur Board of
Education.
He was mayor of Decatur 1969-1970.
Professionally, Bill has practiced
architecture for more than 61 years, and still
works on residential projects and provides
architectural services to Decatur Presbyterian
Church, where he has served as a Deacon and an
Elder.
President C.J. said that Bill Breen did not
want a plaque, a banner, or any other physical
recognition of his honorary membership, so she
announced to the Club that the Club's
participation in and financial support of
Decatur's Martin Luther King Jr. Service Project
in January 2011 would be in honor of Bill
Breen.
District Governor Casey
Farmer presented a special pin to Bill
"on behalf of RI President Ray
Klinginsmith.

District Govenor Casey
Farmer
President C.J. Becker
introduced the speaker,
District Governor Casey Farmer.
District Governor Casey Farmer is a
member of the Stone Mountain Rotary Club which was
charted as the East DeKalb Rotary Club in 1965 by
Decatur Rotary. As a law student, District
Governor Casey worked at McCurdy & Candler,
and says he owes his ability to "walk and
stand before you today" to Dr. Hiram
Kite, a Decatur Rotary charter member,
who pioneered an orthopedic procedure which
straightened Casey's feet. "I was born with a
birth defect - my feet were turned at 90 degree
angles," he said.
District Governor Casey spoke on the
RI theme for this year - Building Communities,
Bridging Continents. He said that July 1,
2010, marked the beginning of the Rotary
Foundation Future Vision Plan (FVP) Pilot
Program. The three-year pilot program
is a new way of structuring grants, and District
6900 is one of 100 Rotary districts worldwide
involved. Except for PolioPlus and Rotary
Peace Fellowships, clubs in pilot districts will
not participate in current Foundation
programs. Instead, District 6900 and other
pilot districts will apply for district
grants. These grants will support six
areas: peace and conflict
prevention/resolution; disease prevention and
treatment; water and sanitation; maternal and
child health; basic education and literacy; and
economic and community development. During
the pilot program period, the Rotary Foundation
will phase out current educational and
humanitarian grants and refine the plan so that
all Rotary districts can participate in July 2013.
District Governor Casey announced a
Rotary Foundation Seminar explaining the Future
Vision Pilot Program to be held August 21 in
Columbus, GA. He also said that membership
retention is an issue in our Rotary zone -
Georgia, Florida and the Caribbean.
"District 6900 exists to serve its clubs just as
clubs exist to serve their members," he
said. He reminded the club of the April
District Conference at Callaway Gardens and of the
Rotary International Convention to be held in
Atlanta in
2017.

The book "Arts and Crafts
Furniture Projects" was donated to the DeKalb
Library System in honor of District Governor
Casey's visit with
us.
The
meeting was then adjourned.
