| The Four-Way Test
In everything that we
think, say or do:
Is it the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER
FRIENDSHIPS?
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all
concerned?

It
was an exciting and inspirational week for the
Decatur Rotary Club, as we had the pleasure of
hosting one exceptionally committed and dedicated
Rotarian for a dinner, a board meeting and a
Friday weekly meeting. I hope you enjoy
reading about it, and always remember that if you
have something noteworthy that you feel deserves
to be printed in our newsletter, don't hesitate to
send it along to your Bulletin
Committee. Brian

Rotary District 6900 Governor, Roy
Strickland
President
Bryan introduced District 6900 Governor Roy
Strickland, highlighting his ties to and work
during his teenage years in Decatur. Along
with Tom Adams, President Bryan serenaded Governor
Strickland with an original song sung to the
Johnny Cash song "I've Been Everywhere" naming the
numerous Clubs the Governor has visited during his
tenure and his travels throughout the
District. President Bryan noted that
Governor Strickland joined the Smyrna Rotary Club
in 1996 and was twice the Club's President serving
in that role in 1997-1998 and again in
2006-2007. Among his many recognitions and
honors, Governor Strickland is a Paul Harris
Fellow, a two-time Smyrna Rotarian of the Year and
a District 6900 Rotarian of the
Year.
Governor
Strickland reported that the health of District
6900 is good with active Clubs, regular
attendance, and service and giving exceeding
goals. Governor Strickland encouraged our
Club to (1) Dream Big; (2) Have Fun; and (3) Serve
Meaningfully. Governor Strickland noted that
the Club has accomplished all three in its 71
years of service to Decatur and District
6900.
In announcing the District's current
mission, Governor Strickland reminisced that when
Member Ted O'Callaghan served as District Governor
the mission statement was "Put Life Into Rotary,
Your Life". For 2009-2010, the District's
mission statement is "The Future of Rotary Is In
Your Hands". The future of Rotary is in each
member's own hands and all are encouraged to
reflect on who else should be invited to join as a
member. Rotary is not just a "civic
club," but instead it is an international
humanitarian service organization. Rotary
must remain strong, attract and retain members,
and thrive to remain relevant and committed to
service. Each member has the obligation to
keep the club vital, meaningful, and
relevant.
In seeking new
members, we must remember that Rotarians take up
the hard fight and must view the Four-Way Test not
just as some litany to be memorized but as a way
of life. Governor Strickland is proud to be
a Rotarian because of the character, integrity,
honor and morality of Rotary members. As a
Rotarian, we owe a duty to share Rotary to grow
the Club, support the Rotary Foundation, and
conduct the business and service of
Rotary.
On behalf of District 6900 Governor
Roy Strickland's visit to our Club the book
entitled, Your America: Democracy's Local Heroes,
was donated to the DeKalb Public Library
System.
